Current Season Competitions
Competitions are an integral part of all camera clubs, encouraging new and old members outside of their comfort zones to interpret and produce a unique image. Whether shot on film or digital, printed or projected, the external judge provides a balanced critique that encourages all members with improving their particular photographic journey.

Judge: George Herraghty, Lhanbryde
Judge: George Herraghty, Lhanbryde
Hand-in Date: 18th November 2025
Judging Night: 2nd December 2025
A photograph where the primary subject is framed. This could be a manufactured frame like a window, door or arch, or a natural one formed by overhanging trees. Doors and windows can be open or shut providing many compositional options; for example: a decorated door at Christmas could be your central subject, and old rustic barn door perhaps? An open door or window can introduce intrigue, with your main subject placed within. The topic of “frames” can therefore be interpreted to be the frame itself or a subject that is framed.

Judge: Stewart Dodd, Dundee
Hand-in Date: 3rd March 2026
Judging Night: 24th March 2026
Street photography is a genre that captures everything from candid, everyday moments of life in public places, or the direct interaction of your subject where you get people you meet to pose. More often though the focus is on the unscripted and spontaneous interactions of people and their environment. Framing and timing can be key aspects of the craft with the aim of some street photography being to create images at a decisive or poignant moment. Try walking around towns and cities and keep your eyes open for opportunities. Or maybe just sit quietly and wait for someone to walk by…
