Current Season Competitions
Competitions are an integral part of all camera clubs, encouraging new and old members outside of their comfort zones to interpret and produce a unique image. Whether shot on film or digital, printed or projected, the external judge provides a balanced critique that encourages all members with improving their particular photographic journey.

Not just your basic photos of flowers and animals, this time you must consider your focal point and background. Shooting with a wide open lens will give you a shallow depth of field meaning that only part of your subject will be in sharp focus. The judge will be looking for soft bokeh backgrounds to complement your main subject.

Yes we all know that there are rules in photography, but do you know when to break them? Maybe you’ll abandon a rule of composition by embracing chaos instead of an old comfortable rule of thirds – or maybe you can forget that sharp focal point and just go soft. Whatever you decide, the images you produce must still work; proving that sometimes, breaking the rules, can lead to striking, unconventional, images. So go on, shatter those classic rules – I dare you!

Accentuate those man made edifices by embracing elements of structure, by placing strategic lines to lead the observers eyes through your image. Lines can be physical – made from materials used in or on a building, or shadows caused by the light interacting through columns or bars; or maybe you have a different perspective?
